Fundraisers

TCC welcomes you to create a fundraiser to benefit our organization.  Examples of past events held by our members include: garage sales, ‘kitchen parties’, ‘pass the hat’ parties, class projects, etc. For information and support, contact TCC at info@thyroidcancercanada.org

Our generous members have created the following fundraisers on their own, to the benefit of Thyroid Cancer Canada...

2011

On September 24, 2011 Donna Millington held a Run/Walk with a Neck Check theme, to benefit Thyroid Cancer Canada. The event was held in the Eau Claire park in Calgary.  Donna surpassed her goal and raised over $7,000 as a donation to our charity! Thank you Donna!

2010

Sharon Docherty held a women’s gifts sales party and raffle with the proceeds going to Thyroid Cancer Canada. She decorated her lovely home and garden in a butterfly motif, called several local businesses for donations, and held an event on June 4, 2010 that raised $600 in total for our group. That generous donation represents the support of 60 new members via our popular Welcome Package program. Big thanks to Sharon, her friends, and supporters!

2009

Alexandra Bilodeau (10 year daughter of our member, Maria Besonart) and her friend Tara Larouche, spearheaded a fundraiser for our benefit at Sunshine Academy in Dollard des Ormeaux, Quebec. In describing her event Alexandra said:

“We started a fundraiser for thyroid cancer in our school. We put boxes in each class so people could donate money. Then we did a presentation for all the classes with a song we wrote on cancer. We also put up posters around the school to remind everyone about our fundraiser. Tara and I would collect the boxes during recess and lunchtime and then count the money. We missed a lot of free playtime but it was worth it. We raised two hundred dollars for Thry’vors which you will find with this letter. We hope we did enough to help people. We also made a website which gives information on thyroid cancer and how to donate.”

TCC was very grateful for Alexandra and Tara’s efforts. We also acknowledged their efforts with appreciation certificates and thank you letters.

2008

Marsha Solnicki said "When my friend Charna Gord sent out an email in early March 2007 bringing her friends up to date about her health and recovery from a thyroidectomy, she also mentioned her thankfulness to the Thyroid Cancer Canada support group. Her many friends who received this email were happy to hear that her healing was so well supported by this group through their caring and compassion as well as their knowledge about the disease."

Charna is a part of a historic summer cottage camp community called Camp Naivelt (‘New World’) located near Brampton, ON. The women of this community regularly have events during the winter months where they meet and socialize. Since a Pot Luck Dinner was definitely overdue, Marsha thought it would be the perfect opportunity to combine the social event and a Fundraiser for Thyroid Cancer Canada in honour of Charna’s recovery. They set a modest goal of raising money in some multiple of ‘Chai’, which is the Hebrew word for life and is represented by the number 18.

On April 12, 2008 fourteen women met to eat, schmooze and donate to this worthy cause. They raised $234 (13 X Chai).  Marsha said they were happy with the knowledge that in their small way they helped support others in the same way their friend Charna had been helped through this difficult time.

2007

Suseeladevy and Ananthan Subramaniam have friends in the 555th Wellesley Tamil Scouts Group as their then fifteen year old daughter was a member. They invited 20 families from that group over to their apartment and provided treats, organized games & prizes for the children and designed their own brochure to hand out with information about thyroid cancer and Thyroid Cancer Canada. Not only did everyone enjoy a fun-filled, all-ages party, but Suseeladevy had the opportunity to educate her friends about thyroid cancer and raise funds for us at the same time.

Susseeladvy said she and her husband wanted to give something back to Thyroid Cancer Canada as we had supported them with our printed matter and through several phone calls, following the time of her diagnosis in 2007.

And what a great job they did in returning the support — as they raised $610!
