Board Members

Alison Cass (St John’s, NL)

Alison has more than ten years of project management experience at a national level. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Environmental Planning/Design and currently consults in the fields of marketing, press and public relations, editing and design. A volunteer with various organizations since she was a teenager, Alison has chaired the Medical Advisory Panel Liaison Committee since 2013 and looks forward to deeper involvement with Thyroid Cancer Canada. Alison is a patient-member who underwent a total thyroidectomy in 2012 and has found Thyroid Cancer Canada to be an invaluable resource during her own medical challenges. She has a particular interest in patient education and advocacy developed while researching treatment options and patient experience.

Marie-Josée Roy (Quebec, QC)

Marie-Josée Roy is an occupational therapist working in rehabilitation and chronic pain. She received her MBA in Occupational Health and Safety from Laval University in 2007. She provides evaluation and development of workers' capacity to work after injury, to support childcare workers, nurses, etc. to return to work. She also works with employers to ensure a return to safe and sustainable work environment. Marie-Josée has been volunteering as the Chair of the French Committee for Thyroid Cancer Canada, and helped to create a communications strategy to reach French-speaking patients.

Sarah Eadie (Toronto, ON)

Sarah is a recent thyroid cancer survivor who, just four months before her wedding, received news that she had follicular papillary carcinoma. As a thyroid cancer survivor herself, this is a cause near and dear to her heart. She knows intimately what patients go through, and is compelled to help pay it forward, sharing both her journey and skill set as a business leader. She is an experienced marketing leader who builds strategies that drive brand identity, and grow new corporate partnerships. Sarah has a strong background in creating marketing teams from the ground up, executing strategic marketing plans, as well as launching campaigns across Canada and the Americas. Currently, she is Director of Marketing & Communications at CBRE. Sarah’s experience spans the professional services and real estate field, having managed global, national and local brands, working at global real estate firms such as Colliers International, Royal LePage Canada and Oxford Properties. Throughout her career, she has worked across Marketing & Communications in a variety of different capacities from: strategic planning, business development, public relations, events, advertising, internal communications, social media and branding. Sarah is an entrepreneurial leader at heart, and building, creating and innovating are what she does best. Sarah supports causes such as the Canadian Women’s Foundation and Red Door Family Shelter, and has run Corporate Responsibility programs at Chair level while at Colliers International. She has managed charitable programs supporting Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Meagan’s Walk, along with other local community events.

 

Theresa-Marie Underhill (Halifax, NS)

Theresa-Marie was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 1999 when her child was just 16 months old. Her daughter is now 17 years old and Theresa-Marie is a healthy, thriving survivor who has benefited from excellent treatment, long-term follow-up and patient management. Theresa-Marie's career has been in health administration, holding senior executive positions in policy and program management at the federal and provincial governments as well as in clinical and public health management. She was the principle organizational architect who created Cancer Care Nova Scotia, the provincial cancer agency. She led the agency for 15 years and in that role Theresa-Marie championed, amongst other health system innovations, multi-disciplinary care for thyroid cancer patients and, more broadly, the development and implementation of diagnostic and care delivery standards for cancer patients as well as a comprehensive education for health professionals and patients. Theresa-Marie is a committed volunteer at the community and national levels, particularly in the areas of health policy, child welfare and sport. Theresa-Marie brings the knowledge of health systems, advocacy and a strong belief in the value of the patient’s lived experience to the table to effect change in order to improve outcomes. Theresa-Marie is currently consulting in the areas of systems and project management, clinical systems operations and change management.

Sylvie Deshaies (Quebec City, Quebec)

Sylvie is a thyroid cancer survivor since 2006. She was passionate about sharing her experiences with other survivors and joined Thyroid Cancer Canada's board to contribute to spreading awareness of the organization to other thyroid cancer patients and their families across Quebec. Sylvie is looking forward to offering support to patients who are newly-diagnosed and building a strong community of thyroid cancer survivors. By day, Sylvie utilizes her 20 years of group savings and retirement experience at a leading Canadian insurance company.
